Description

This was the one and only Barry Smith CONAN page that I ever owned -- CONAN #8 page 9 -- I bought it at the 1974 New York Con, and at the time it was the most I ever spent for a page of original art... $165...(!!)... Barry Smith was at the convention and I showed it to him and asked if he would sign it, and he frowned and said, "No." He asked where I got it, and I told him that I bought it from Roy Thomas at his dealer's table -- this was in the days when Marvel was NOT returning art to the artists, and Barry was really angry about that, which was very understandable! BUT YOU STILL COULD HAVE SIGNED IT, BARRY!!!! And again, I kept it for 10-15 years, then I traded it too for a couple Mac Raboy FLASH GORDON pieces... NOTE: This was one of only 5 pages in this issue that was inked by Tom Palmer, an excellent inker!

Didn't know Palmer had inked BWS Conan - distinctive look! Mac Raboy Flash Gordon's are amazing and have garnered more respect recently so let's see those!
