Description

Original preliminary artwork by Ed 'Emsh' Emshwiller for the novel “The Moon Maid” by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Signed as “Emsh” as lower-right. Also, artist's stamp with name/address appears on the back.
Pertinent details of this artwork are as follows:

Size: 4.25 x 6.75 inches (image) on 5.25 x 7.5 inch artist board
Date Created: unknown (circa 1962)
Signed: Yes, as “Emsh”, lower right.
Inscriptions: none
Appearances: I have been unable to conclusively determine the publication of a final version of this preliminary, however it was possibly done for an omnibus edition of ‘The Moon Maid’ and ‘The Land that Time Forgot’ by Edgar Rice Burroughs, published in 1963 by Dover Publications.
Condition: No crimps, folds, tears, or damage of any kind. There is a penciled X in the upper-left corner of the board and 2 minor dirt smudges; 1 at top edge near right corner, and 1 just below the X, none of which affect the art itself. There are 2 pieces of blue masking tape on the reverse side, where this had previously been affixed to a piece of larger backing board. I have not attempted to remove this tape, but it could likely be done if the Buyer so chooses.
