DescriptionRecreation of the unused version of this FF issue where T'Challa is introduced to the MCU. This is an eye-catching cvr. and why Marvel declined to use this bold image is a mystery.Jack Kirby was ahead of his time in imagining a more diverse world but it wasn't the reality in the 1960's. America was embroiled in a bitter struggle for civil rights. Was Marvel aware of the treacherous currents and fearing blowback to a person of color featured too prominently on the cvr? Were they worried about losing sales? I dunno...but the published cvr. seems purposeful in hiding the historic nature of the issue. Maybe someone decided it was a safer bet to let the story speak for itself. My thanks to Steve for this wonderful gift! Social/Sharing |

I've heard that Goodman decreed a change to full face mask out of fear of Southern distributor reaction. That doesn't explain the total cover redo though.
