Description

I've been looking for pages from Way of the Rat for about five years. Easily one of my top three Crossgen books. Jeff Johnson unleashed everything he knew about martial arts in collaboration with Chuck Dixon's rogue and his mentor monkey made good.

Here, our hero, Boon, thief and now owner of the Ring of Staffs, takes on Bhuto Khan, owner of the ring of swords. Boon is so inexperienced that Khan has to help him scavenge a metal rod to use as a staff.

Jeff's clear storytelling here shines through. The amount of acting on this page was a hallmark of the series. Tom Ryder was a great inker for Jeff.

Jeff is an incredibly accessible artist. I have a Boon commission from that I got several years ago after reaching out to him via twitter. I eventually reached back out to find out it he knew where most of his WotR pages had gone. Turns out he had a large number and brought some with him to the IN Comic Con this year. In addition to being active on twitter, Jeff is also regularly on YouTube on the Original Drink and Draw channel.

Seeing those pages, I certainly wish Jeff was more active in comics nowadays.
