Description

High on my list for Lake Como Comic Art Festival 2022 was Marvel artist Dike Ruan, repped by Kirby's Comic Art. I've been loving his work on "Spider-Man" & "Black Cat", and feel like he does that last character particularly well.

Fairly early on during the first day I visited his booth, and checked if he could fit me into his schedule. An ink bust of Black Cat.

"Hey, man!", I heard someone shout when walking around. It was a couple of hours later and Dike walked into me on the convention floor. Apparently, he had forgotten about the "ink" and had upgraded my piece without charge to a watercolour painting.

Love the negative spacing, her look and the shine on her leather costume. Size is 10x14.

That's a great upgrade! Ruan's color work is inspired. Where and how he chooses to mask it off for the white to work into the design is nice graphic design.

It's been a while since one of those upgrade situations happened - but when it does, it's something you'll never forget about, and instantly adds to that piece & connection with the artist. I know whose books I'll be buying, for sure.

Awesome! Dike just keeps getting better and better. Love the little smile here on Felicia, and that colored background vs her white hair (art board I'm assuming!) adds a nice contrast. Congrats!
