DescriptionFollowing the example of a fellow CAF collector, I will post this commission if I ever receive it from Larry Stroman. On June 17, 2015, Larry Stroman - one of my favorite artists for almost three decades – accepted my request for 2 commissions: one Thor and one Hawkeye. Mr. Stroman told me the cost, and payment was made in full for the artwork plus shipping on the same day via PayPal. Unfortunately, as of today, nearly 7 years later, Mr. Stroman has yet to deliver the Hawkeye commission. On June 7, 2016, I reached out to Larry Stroman again, but he never replied, Since then I have not received any response from Mr. Stroman. On February 18, 2017, an acquaintance of Mr. Stroman very kindly reached out to me as well as several other friends of mine who also have been waiting a long time for commissions and offered to try to help and resolve this. But despite his efforts no solutions were reached, no artwork was delivered, and no replies from Mr. Stroman were ever received. In 2021, Ken Carson of 4C Comics was able to get some of the work that Larry Stroman completed to myself as well as a good friend of mine, who was waiting even longer than me for commissions paid for and completed by Larry Stroman years earlier. Ken is awesome, and I highly recommend working with him! I was happy to receive the Thor commission, which you can view in my gallery. Over the last few years, I have seen Mr. Stroman on Facebook talking about accepting new commissions. I have seen other people post artwork online that they received from Larry Stroman long after I paid for mine in 2015, which made me feel very frustrated. Since all forms of contact go unanswered, I will use this as a placeholder/reminder until Larry Stroman does the right thing by completing and shipping the Hawkeye commission he's been paid for 7 years ago. While I know Larry’s artwork will look amazing, I’m disappointed by how difficult it has been to commission and support one of my favorite artists. Social/Sharing |

How frustrating! I really hope he comes through with the Hawkeye. I'm glad some other good samaritans have helped (or at least tried to help) you along the way.

I can totally relate. I just blasted another artist over the weekend during a Comic Art Live panel chat for failure to deliver over 8 years.

Sorry to hear more people having similar troubles with those not-at-all-pro artist, Marcus. Damn good that you blasted one of this bunch: they deserve more people doing it!

Lucky you are not living in the time of Leonardo. He kept people waiting for over twenty years and still did not deliver.

While not as long a wait as yours, I've crossed the three year mark waiting for mine. Ken tried to help me too but no dice. The most aggravating part of the whole thing is his willingness to accept NEW clients!
If I'd stiffed this many people & been publicly called out for it, you wouldn't see any trace of me being open for commissions — I'd enroll in the Witness Protection Program & be going by "Ben Kenobi" somewhere.

Another story of bad attitude from the guy. Thanks for sharing the great Art experience…with him.

I'm also in the Larry Stroman club. He accepted two commissions from me which he never delivered. Larry stopped responding to messages and never sent anything. I wrote those undelivered commissions off years ago. Hopefully you get yours. Good luck!

Daryl, sad to know that you are one of us. Maybe this whole thing will bring some light in the dark…

I feel your pain. I have only waited three years for mine (and counting) but he promised me it would be done by a certain date in 2019 (it was to be a birthday gift) and I paid him extra for the privelage. Same story, plenty of nice supporting messages from my end, but these have all gone completely ignored.
Ken was also amazing in at least getting me a pin-up that I had bought direct through Larry many years earlier that I had also given up on.

Could be worse. At least you finally got something. One dealer owes me a couple of thousand dollars for which I got nothing. Its not just artists who are taking money and giving nothing.

Sorry, but I don't get the point. Do the same I did so less people will fall in his net. You can do something, but it's up to you. Maybe we should organize a guild of thieves instead?

Unfortunately I can do nothing about that particular dealer as he said we could work something out later and I foolishly let it run till after my credit card payment cover had run out. Its time limited. Still waiting for a refund. Lol. Been waiting since 2009. Hes in the US. What can I do? I live in Ireland. Hes one of the biggest dealers out there. He advertises on this very site. Lol.

I am a relative noob when it comes to collecting original art and have only risked a few commissions because of fears of ending up in a similar situation as you've described. I feel that it is patient and generous to wait one year, but once the wait becomes years plural, then something is wrong and the artist has begun taking advantage of the situation. My sympathies to you and I hope you get your Hawkeye after all.

Thanks, Robert. Learning process is a never-ending story. I try to avoid mistake. Some Artists insist in repeating the same again and again…

This is the worst when this happens, when all you can do is publicly put the artist on blast. It happens far too often in this hobby sadly. Stroman in particular is renown for this sadly, there are lengthy threads in the 'Commissions' section of StatueForum of people being burned by him. Good luck!

Stroman also owes me an Alien Legion Sarigar commission which I paid for and never received despite numerous attempts to contact him for a refund. Hes a thief and piece of work.
