Description
I wasn't able to make it to the LCS yesterday but I'm excited for DWJ's new mini, Do A PowerBomb!

Nothing beats an artist working on something they are absolutely passionate about, so I am full of anticipation for this book.

So, to commemorate, here's the set-up page for DWJ's 2020 ashcan. Other than the onomatopoeia and background chants, it's almost wordless. Just pure art, and the eternal story of destruction and creation that is played out through the modern Kabuki that is staged wrestling.

Buckle up!

Powerful movement from DWJ.  Also... did you say "staged wrestling?" What is "staged wrestling?"

While DWJ didn't invent the techniques on display here, he certainly is leaving an indelible mark on them. Gorgeous page that definitely shows his passion for the "sport".

When the Liger gets tough
The tough gets Liger, tough, tough, huh, huh, huh
When the Liger gets tough, the tough get ready

Tough, tough, tough

Yeah, oh, do da do da
I got artwork to show you
Red Shoes' reffing today
I'm Liger bomb frog splash in motion
I gonna do shooting star press my way
When the Jushin gets tough
The tough get wrasslin'

I'm gonna give your head 'cross brainbuster
That's the price you're gonna to pay
Tokyo Dome, you'll stand and deliver
And give me steaks in the Ribera way woh

Darlin', I'll be any champion
Darlin', I'll sell anything

Oh (oh) Dan will draw you (can ink brush you)
And do the things that wrestlers do?
Oh (oh) want to hold you (wanna hold you)
I gotta get to suplex you, oh

When the going gets tough
The tough get Liger
When the Thunder gets rough
The tough get rough
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
Oh baby

His Wrestletober illustrations are cool enough, but when you see a full page like this it is impressive. This has just as much detail and action as one of the best pages from Do A Powerbomb! #1. DWJ puts his heart and soul into everything he does, especially with the things that he loves, and this is a prime example. Liger! Liger! Liger!

Fabulous page! I love how he illustrated the crowd with only simple, curved strokes to represent the people's heads, yet when you look at it as a whole, he sells the technique so well that it really looks and feels like a real crowd.

I think my wrestling name would be Mr Onomatopoeia. I have a bizarrely huge love for the technique, and wouldn't that be cool? But not as cool as this ashcan page. (Agreed that there's not much better than an artists passion project) And I love the usage here, too. SHA-SPEAR? Heh, excellent. KRAKA-SWEET! Congrats
