Description{Sidebar: I have an affinity for ww2/cold war era submarines, my Grandfather was a sub commander and I grew up hearing all these cool stories about subs, toured many and have models of the subs he commanded.}I'm excited to add another Cockrum page to the collection, but... it's a X-men page without...X-men. I get it, seems boring, but look let's dive in (har har)-> Top panel - we have a cold war era nuclear Russian Sub - Delta II class, Leningrad. I looked this up and it's 100% accurate except the name is made up - there was a Zelenograd named boat in this era/class. In the previous action, the submarine fired on Magneto who has Cyclops held hostage on a boat. Panel 2 - Magneto holograms onto the sub and tells them they are toast. Sure we don't have any X-peeps, but this is about as solid a Cockrum Magneto (hologram) as you'll find. Panels 3-6 - Magneto from miles away uses his powers to short the controls sending the sub to Davy Jones's Locker. Panel 7 - The Russian naval command realizes that Magneto has sunk the Leningrad and they prepare to escalate (probably not going to go well). Color scan in alt images. Social/Sharing |

Thanks Eric - really enjoyed meeting you at Heroes, can't wait to meet up again and talk all things Spidey OA, and maybe a little x-men ;-)

In a sub that he has torn
In X-Men ish One Fifty
Erik told us of his life
As a man of magnetry
So we saved to buy Cockrum
Bought this page from overseas
And we hoped Moscow will save
Of our Russian submarine
Rubinstein inked a Russian submarine
Russian submarine, sank the submarine
No more lives in a Russian submarine
Cyclops looking weak, Find me Wolverine

Great page! Cockrum X-pages are always good, even sans the heroes. Congrats!

Oh! I forgot about this auction! I've always loved this page, as the idea of the X-Men's most villainous foe showed for the first time just how truly evil he could be by sinking a manned submarine, killing all onboard, just because he could! This page has been etched into my memory since the day I bought and read it. Great catch, Scot, congrats!

"Arr, Davey Jones locker be always full." The Master of murder strikes again...What about Wolverine? Hes not on the page but was busy slicing up some poor henchman at the time.
