I have been on a bit of a hiatus from buying expensive pieces, which hasn't stopped me from buying affordable examples from creators I've had my eye on and jumping on some commission lists of artists whose work I've been enjoying.

While commissions often don't have the value of the originals I think they are very interesting especially over the long term. You end up with work from artists who stop taking commissions, have drastic style changes or just aren't around at all anymore. I also think the commission game quality has drastically improved in the last few years, it's been nice.

I got a Kitty Pryde commission from Elsa back at NYCC at in 2015 and I have been following her career ever since. For quite awhile commissions weren't open and then finally this past winter she opened quite a few spots, we will probably be seeing a lot of these in a the Kickstarter art books that she has been doing.

This piece has a very striking layout that is noticeable from across the room, a gutsy move to not have the main heroines face facing the camera. It looks like Elsa enjoyed drawing Alice and really leaned into a psychedelic vibe. Alice seems to be more than 10 feet tall here.

I also have to say that even though this was mail order from France and through the artist herself it was one of the most professional commission experiences I have ever had. She set deadlines let you know what they were and hit them, and then shipped the piece quickly. 5/5 stars.
