Description

Another one of those pages that reminds me of my upbringing and showcases Risso's penchant for dynamic shots, attention to detail, and storytelling all at the same time. Sitting around talking mess around the Domino table is a staple in my culture so I knew I needed a page from this scene.

I love the use of Shepherd's cigarette throughout the panels to show the passage of time. The time he takes to take out a fresh smoke, light up, and take his first puff before uttering his next words shows a relaxed coolness to the character. That upshot in the bottom left panel does so much to establish these larger than life characters and the use of the corner of the table to divide the talking heads is simply brilliant. The final panel from Shepherd's point of view really seals the deal for me. If you've been around a smoker for any amount of time then you know they often use that double finger point while holding their cigarette when they're trying to drive a point across. "You've got a war on your hands." The plot of the story begins to shift to what this series is really about at this point. Amazing attention to detail throughout this page by Risso.
