DescriptionWelcome back to another new art Sunday. We are going to continue with the Denys Cowan art.A timely page, featuring Hardware from Milestone Comics. Denys Cowan has been all over the news recently, promoting both Milestone Comics and the new documentary Milestone Generations. I finally had a chance to see the documentary. It was good! I enjoyed hearing the story behind Milestone Comics, its creation and purpose. I recommend everyone see it. It's an hour long and seems short. It's available on HBO. In 1993 when Milestone launched I was all in. It wasn't just that they were heroes of color, the books didn't look like anything else on the shelf at the time. The stories and art were great. Blood Syndicate was my favorite title, it was the mix of characters and their strange powers. They were not your typical superheros. A Fantastic splash of Hardware. Denys Cowan has always been one of my favorite artists. He's on my Mount Rushmore of artists. The Question and Milestone are a big reason why, along with his work on Green Arrow and Batman. It's the kinetic, frenetic style he has. Prentis Rollins inks are amazing on this. He brings a different style to Denys pencils. His inks are bold and clean, almost mechanical, yet he doesn't lose any of the energy Denys brings. I mean come on, Hardware is bursting onto the scene, looking like a badass. It's so good. I stopped collecting and reading comics in 1993, so I never got the opportunity to read any of the Milestone stuff. But as a Cowan fan, I do love the aesthetics of this piece. As usual, it's just teeming with energy!

That's heavy metal to the core! Hardware busts through a ferris wheel with full thrusters and that heavy chain leaving behind twisted metal and editors unable to tell which side should be top and which side to be bottom!

Wow! One of the best Cowan and Hardware splashes I've seen! Love upwarp perspective choice, too - really adds to the "large than life" feel. I watched the doc, too, recently and it was great. Lots to offer from Denys around those initial Milestone times. Congrats on a great piece!

The detail on this is outstanding. It easily could have been a cover.
