John Byrne is my favorite comic book artist (and writer). My three favorites of his from the 80's are Fantastic Four, Alpha Flight, and Superman (more on that later). I left out X-Men because I actually missed that whole period! I started reading comics, heavily, when Byrne was doing FF, and I thought it was the greatest thing in comics. X-Men is great no doubt, but I don't have the same nostalgia level for it. Some folks have argued that Byrne peaked on X-Men (I strongly disagree). I would say it was between the middle of the FF run and Superman - his last really great work IMO. However, he did some great work over the years after that - case in point, this page from JKFW. This page is just gorgeous - great layout, anatomy, storytelling, and especially the inking - which is just silky smooth. A real post-peak gem!

The layout is fun with Byrne using postcard style and full bleed. The smiling face on Light Ray is a satisfying payoff to the page.

I've never heard that term - "postcard" style? But I do love the layout. Thanks for the comment!
