Description
If you know me you know I love when music crosses over into comics. This art was done for DMC's debut #0 comic book as part of a series of homage covers created for Darryl from THE Run-DMC's comic book. This is Khoi Pham's pencil and ink homage to Steranko's classic Incredible Hulk annual cover. The homage covers were organized with DMC's editor/collaborator Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez.

This artwork was also used for a limited edition 23" x 35.5" Giclee print that was limited to 50. The prints were shown and sold at several gallery events.

While I don't love the placement of DMC's signature, as a fan of Run-DMC it's exciting to see that he signed "Jay R.I.P." and "It's Tricky"!

This art was used for:
- Aug 2014 - Boston Comic Con exclusive comic book release
- Oct 2016 - Darryl's NYCC promo banner
- Jun 2017 - Hang Up Gallery event in the UK
- 2017 - Sky Art Gallery exhibit in Caesars Palace in Las Vegas

UPDATE Jul 2024: I'm excited to share this piece has been on display from July 2024 through January 12th, 2025 for the "Collections In Black" exhibit at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center in Pittsburg, PA.

Love this George! This homage has so much DMC vibe which is what makes it so great. One of my favorite Steranko homages in a long time. And it fits perfectly in your music themed collection! Congrats - thanks for sharing!

Darryl was very cool to meet in person at SDCC one year to promote the comic and stopped by the booth to take photos even though he wasn't there to look at the art.  Yeah, I recognized him and stopped him for a photo and he didn't mind at all.  I liked how he was a comic reader in his youth and fully understood the power of the medium just like how rap was an outlet for his voice.

I wish he didn't use the entire bottom third of the cover to scribble over, especially since there's a phat, juicy white border right at the bottom. Perhaps he found having to fit everything he wanted to say intothat border space a bit tricky? That aside, it's a really cool cover!

DMC is one of the rare figures that deserves the title of legend, and this is an epic piece worthy of him.
