DescriptionI first met Nick Pitarra at the late and not very lamented Space City Comic Con when it held its initial show at the Westin Galeria Hotel back in 2012! Manhattan Projects by Jonathan Hickman and Nick had been out for about 5 issues that I hand not picked up. Nick talked me into buying them and I was hooked.Nick's art style is a clear descendant of Moebius by way of Frank Quitely with a smidge of Geof Darrow thrown in. Nick recently decided to self-publish and self-fund his own original story through Zoop - Axe-Wielder Jon. The campaign was a huge success; he tired for $25K and ended up with about $250K! Read this for a few sample pages and some background. Though the story isn't complete (yet), I jumped on it because of my faith in Nick. He's making steady progress with art being made available through Felix Comic Art. The project is unusual in that Nick is working big! Each page has three panels and each panel is one 11"x17" sheet. So, a page from the book is 33"x17"! That's working really big. Nick's not skimping on the details either. He's filling the panels. I haven't seen Nick since COVID started, but he appeared at Eastern Rim Funny Book and Vintage Show in Baytown, TX about 45m east of me. They had a great guest list including folks like Tony Isabella (Creator of Black Lightning and writer of many, many comics), Joe Eisma (Morning Glories, Engineward), Val Mayerik (Howard the Duck), and many more creators and comic dealers. While there I picked up this rejected panel (yes, it's 11x17 and totally finished). It was rejected because it didn't capture the look Nick wanted. I'm thrilled to have this reject because it is awesome and beautifully done. Check how his book on Zoop. The link is above! Social/Sharing |

Great previously unseen piece and it has distinction as part of the origins of the character. It comes along with the Pitarra touches of fine detail and the bold format presentation.

That's great that you are friends with Nick! I wanted to grab a page from the book as I helped fund it with my purchase of the book that will come with a sketch but they all flew off Felix site (as most times) lol. Congrats on this great piece of art. Your description of Nick's art is exactly on spot!

Congrats on the great page and thanks for sharing! Every new image I see of Jon only builds my anticipation. I can't wait until we all get our hands on this book!
