DescriptionAs Jason Aaron’s tenure on Avengers seems like it’s coming to an end, I thought it would probably be time to post some pages I own from that run.I won’t lie, I bought this one solely for the badass Black Panther shot. I was truly excited that he was part of the line-up AND that Ed McGuinness, one of my fav’ modern artists, was attached to draw (at the very least) the first arc. And I absolutely LOVE Ed’s rendition of BP (more to come), for the badass Batman vibe and the tilted ears on his mask, like an angry feline ready to fight. The fact that the two first panels are tilted enhances the sense of the alien surrounding within the scene. The first one is nice as it features hipster Dr Strange, a character Aaron is no stranger to (…) from a short run many remember fondly, me included. The second one was the true incentive for me as the crouched BP pose is pitch perfect for me. Then we have the splashy open third panel of both heroes realizing they are basically inside a huge alien (Celestial?) vagina (when you stop laughing, just pay attention to the details on this page and the previous ones, and it will all make sense ;) The sense of scale is truly amazing in this scene. Then the scene gets a truly horrible Alien (Ridley Scott style) vibe with the pods opening on our heroes :s And we know nothing good EVER comes out of a pod. As always, the expert inks by Mr Morales need to be mentioned. (MANY). (MUCH). MORE. TO. COME. Social/Sharing |

Don't care what superpowers I have, if I ever come across a huge cavern full of slimy eggs; I'm going to "NOPE" right out of there!

Great page, F M!! This was definitely my favorite section of that first issue, where we get to see not only the uncommon combo of Black Panther and Doctor Strange (two of my favorites) running around together, but we get to see it drawn by Ed and Mark! Such a great sequence. A fun composition here with the killer Panther shots you point out, and the composition of the cavernous panel is really great (with our heroes backlit) and very nice inking textures applied to the pods (which, thank goodness, are dormant. Wait, what...?). Really nice colors on the published page, too. Really excited to see what you have upcoming! Congrats, Fred, and thanks for sharing!

Content wise, the Black Panther image is the money shot, but aesthetically speaking, the Morales inks are what really stands out most on this page. A lovely example of his work and what he does over McGuinness.

McGuinness does an expert job at conveying the scope of the strange place our heroes find themselves in, with the panel layout serving to enhance the feeling that all is not right here.

I definitely didn't have gynecological spelunking on my bingo card... love the sense of scale, and always a fan of nods to Alien. Great pick up!

The old school kitten mittens are great on BP!!! When you have an infestation, better call in the experts!

Breathtaking page with that huge cavernous alien...whatever...And poor Doctor Strange and Black Panther surrounded by tens of thousands of... eggs? pods? seeds? Beautifully drawn by the incredible Ed McGuiness and artfully inked by Mark Morales!

"Many much more to come" :) Looking forward to it!
I, too, love Ed''s BP and you got a great example at the top right there. Ed really has killed it on his Avengers run with Jason Aaron, and a lot of that has to do with his BP images and all the worldbuilding! Congrats!
