DescriptionHow do you get a commission from Chris Bachalo? You go to a con where he’s attending, you put your name among hundreds of others into a hat, and at the end of the con, if he chooses your name he will do a commission for you. I was one of the lucky few that he chose. First try, too. I will definitely never get that lucky again. So since this will be my only chance to get a commission from Chris, I of course asked him to draw Death (with pigeons). Unfortunately, the commission didn’t turn out well. He drew Death with a bunch of giant skulls and old man heads, then added in a small pigeon or two as an afterthought. I really didn’t like it. So I did something I had never asked an artist to do before, I asked him to redo the commission. Please understand that a commission from Chris is expensive and this will be my only, only, only chance to get a commission from him, so I really wanted something that I will love forever. Fortunately, the second go around turned out amazing! I absolutely love this piece! Death, the background, the atmosphere, and the pigeons! It is simply breathtaking! This beautiful art will definitely stay in my permanent collection. Social/Sharing |

Agreed, this is an absolutely gorgeous piece of art. Bachalo's genius with negative space is legendary and on fine display in the background. Really love Death's expression as well. Congrats on this beauty.

He drew more than two pigeons. Sell this one to me and have him take a third stab at it.

I truly love this commission. Good for you for pushing for what you want. It really turned out much better and more unique for it. Huge congratulations!

So glad that you got what you wanted.
I have only tried a comission once. It was with an artist I admire. (Of course it would be!) The experience had the worst possible result. They created a piece I just did not like. Paid for it and later felt bad trading the piece away.
You did the right thing with Chris. The man is a genius and ultimately would not want you to have something less than his best!
Congratulations on a tremendous artwork and thanks for sharing it here with us on CAF!

Love it, 11x17 too! I was told he preferred backing board commissions, so this is a real treat!

Fanastic Death commission by the incredible Chris Bachalo! I love this commission, with Death standing alone in a park, waiting by a bench, as if the next person to come along and sit down will leave with her. I love the line work here, and the spot blacks which silhouette the trees and adorn Death in a goth sort of outfit. Congrats on winning this commission!
