DescriptionPainting: 24 x 30 inches, oils on cradled board. Artist Statement: As long as I've been working on MtG, I've always wanted the chance to paint Karn. He's such an interesting character that I thought he would be really striking shown in a more classical style. So needless to say I was really excited to get this assignment and when I saw that the scene would be him leading a dig, looking for ancient artifacts, the image quickly came together in my mind. Here we see him directing workers in the last light of the day, while dictating to a scribe and examining maps of the dig-site. A small side-note: as I was wrapping up the painting, I was contacted by my art director about a narrative change in the story that required the human workers in the image to be replaced with automatons. Because of how far along I was in the painting, I opted to make this change digitally. You will notice that the printed image includes the automaton workers while the original painting remains as it was. Thanks! -Chris Social/Sharing |
