Description

The Legion of Super-Heroes was my first comic love. The first comic I bought for myself was Superboy and the Legion 197, with a beautiful Nick Cardy cover and gorgeous internal art by Dave Cockrum. I was hooked. By the time issue 238 came out a few years later, I had read Jim Starlin's Captain Marvel and Warlock and was a big fan of his. So when I saw his amazing wraparound cover to #238, I was blown away! Unfortunately, Starlin did not do the interiors, it was a reprint of an old two-part Adventure Comics story. But I hadn't read this story at the time, so it was all good.

Recently, a friend of mine (hi Rob!) got an incredible painted recreation of the cover of Marvel Two-In-One 50 from Thor Mangila. I decided as soon as I saw it that I needed to get a piece from Thor also. The first thing that came to mind was Superboy 238. I contacted Thor and he agreed to do it. We agreed on a few changes to the original, like putting Universo in place of one of the prison guards. Thor was very communicative during the process, sending me tons of in-progress pics. His process is interesting. He did fully pencilled and toned preliminary pages, and then he transfers those prelims to another board for painting. The prelims looked so good, I bought those too.

Terrific! It's an all time Legion cover and the colors on this takes it a step further in adding to its dramatic effect.
