Lupente sketches by Julia Blattman and Karla Ortiz, Pasadena 2022

Lupente is a new five artist art book from John Fleskes. The book debut was at Lightbox Expo, the event founded by Bobby Chiu and Jim Demonakos. The publisher announced artists Julia Blattman and Karla Ortiz were going to be signing at the Flesk Publications booth on Saturday and Sunday. I know Karla by reputation as a designer for Marvel superhero movies and an advocate for artists. Trusting John’s judgement, I bought the book and met the artists. They were friendly and excited. I love these remarques. On Saturday night, I realized Julia had sketched, but did not sign her name. I returned Sunday and she applied her autograph. On Sunday afternoon, I was hanging out with my brother Stuart at his booth when Karla came by to chat with him. She recognized me from the signing and warmly reached out while Stuart made an introduction. Great feeling as the event wound down.
