Green Lantern Corps #55 (2011) pages 2-3

In the grand Kirby tradition, the second and third pages of this issue form a double page action splash. John Stewart and his Lantern Corps friends must contend with a mean Thunderer known as The Weaponer. The Thunderers are DC's wink at Marvel's Thor character, as seen here by his hefty hammer and winged helmet, augmented by some outrageously veiny and muscular arms.

I got this piece at a convention from inker Matt Banning, a.k.a. "BATT." Penciler Tyler Kirkham happened to be sitting across the aisle, so it was nice to capture a photo of both of them with their shared artwork. The layout is a great worm's-eye solution to the common comic book challenge of how to show several characters fighting each other while all facing forward to the reader. Even Kyle Rayner, flying away from the fight to go rescue a hostage, is visible full-front.
