Description

Update: the redoubtable Glynn Crain has found a published use, for a 1963 British Panther Books edition of Van Vogt's 'Voyage of the Space Beagle.' Many thanks, Glynn!

Jack told me he did this one a long time ago and doesn't recall if it was ever published. "I can say that I remember taking time with detail on the craters on the moon to make them look realistic." And he succeeded, this is amazing. Gouache on board.

I think I have a pretty good idea what inspired the lander (see second pic).

Really wonderful painting as the space race was on and dominated discussion and imaginations. It really has a realism that most others would not dare commit to.

Incredible realism that showcases Jack's talent. Often, the purpose of his art did not justify taking such time. Great piece!!
