DescriptionObviously not one of his most-known series, Le Dieppois is a short (5 pages only) story published once in magazine form and never reprinted...BUT, this is William Vance at the top of his artistic powers, doing what he liked best: adventures at sea at a period when sailing was the real thing. I have been looking for a long time to find a good maritime page from him to complement the Middle Ages page I already had (another of his favourite periods) and this one makes me happy. I mean, look at the splendid ship panel: I don't thik there are many artists out there than can compare with Vance on this field! Sea salt, cracking wood of the masts, snapping sails, song of the gulls... Here we go! Social/Sharing |

The tall ship in the open sea is shown in such a romantic way that it sways how you feel looking through the rest of the panels.

Gorgeous! What a handsome page by William Vance! Love the panels of the seamen, but of course, it's the bottom middle panel that's truly jaw-dropping!
