I'm happy to add an example of Al Williamson's work to my collection, partly because I'm a fan of Flash Gordon creator and artist Alex Raymond. Raymond was the principal stylistic influence on Williamson. This Secret Agent Corrigan strip--previously titled Secret Agent X-9--is a fine example of Williamson's atmospheric technique and story telling. The first panel of a trash-filled street sets the scene for the allegation of corruption that follows. The middle panel gives the colleague/suspect's story. I love Williamson's drawing of the suspect in the last panel as he touches his tie in reaction to being accused of accepting a bribe and covering up the truth. All magnificently done in three panels!

The epitome of cool! Middle panel shows the ruggedly handsome no nonsense look. The touching of the tie is a tell as he feels the heat!

So much to love about this example. Williamson's art exudes cool palpably. The shadowing is skillful and this has great black placement. As others have pointed out, the body language is a terrific touch. Some day I hope to find a Corrigan example as nice as this. Congratulations!

Perfect composition from a master of the craft. Spotting of blacks carries the reader along the panels in a way the great strip artists always did. A fine Williamson example.
