Description
“A Sensational Celebration – The Centennial Capstone to the Star-Studded Story of Showcase.”

Adam Strange proclaims, “The Earth is being dragged out of its orbit!” in this landside story, “There Shall Come a Gathering.” Original artwork for the centennial issue of this famed title, Showcase #100 page 31 (DC, 1978) by Joe Staton (pencils and inks). This story featured appearances by many of the superheroes in which Showcase introduced, or re-introduced during the Silver-Age of Comic Books. This page depicts the main climatic scene as the awesome Spectre, with the aid of his seven powerful allies; the Phantom Stranger, Green Lantern, the Flash, Adam Strange, Space Ranger and his alien sidekick Cryll and the Atom, combine their wills to help the Spectre return the Earth back to her proper place in the galaxy. The fact that the Spectre’s secret identity of Jim Corrigan as an additional will that feeds the Astral Avenger with even more raw power to move worlds is compelling and profound to say the least; “But this is a will of a Dead Man – with memories of humanity still intact…and for the Spectre, those memories are…ENOUGH!”

The Phantom Stranger thanks the Ghostly Guardian and says a fond farewell as he turns his attention and those of his allies to the others who must play their parts in defeating the unnamed alien presence which threatens the Earth.

When it comes to supernatural superheroes, it does not get much better than the Spectre fighting alongside the Phantom Stranger. All in all, one of the best pages from this classic key issue.

So great to see any page from one of my most beloved childhood comics—thanks for the nostalgia hit!

This was when reaching these milestone issue numbers was a real special occasion!  Even those who never read the title would pick one up to acknowledge that tje creators would have something special planned!  This Staton page delivers both pen and ink artwork for the meeting of Spectre and Phantom Stranger!  In an issue with stars galore, this isolated meeting is a rarity.

I remember owning this page...bought it from Glenn Danzig at SDCC years ago. Great acquisition!
