Description

Inspired by F M’s ‘Doodle Week’, I wanted to assemble a similar assortment of con sketch confectionery, delicious doodles, and candied commissions to celebrate the holiday season here on CAF…. Sort of a festive, goody-laden, OA Advent calendar…. The 2022 ART-VENT CALENDAR!

Day 8: A killer 6”x 6” Grendel piece by the one and only Matt Wagner. It’s all about the angle of attack with this one…. Not only with the sharp point carved out by Grendel’s blade and left arm, focusing the viewer’s attention into the bottom right corner, but the harsh lighting on Grendel’s back here (and the pencil shading on his figure) give it more of a rough, stark edge. Rose City Comic Con 2015. Thank you, Matt!

Cool use of the format/space. I love Wagner's take on Hunter Rose so much more than anyone else to ever take on the character.
