Description18x24 commission by Tom Grummett 2021.My BIG homage for the 30th Anniversary of the Death of Superman. This event left a huge imprint on how I see Superman and just about all the DC characters. We all knew Superman would live again. But credit to DC at the time for keeping us in suspense comic after comic and creating all knew and memorable characters both heroes and villains in the process. This commission was done by special request given how large the piece was both in physical size and character count. I was told this was Mr. Grummett's largest commission piece to date but he was excited for the idea. He was amazing to work with and was kind enough to allow me to provide a lot of small details and edits during the process. A fun note (at least for me), when this piece was posted on Tom Grummett's Facebook page, Larry Houston (producer/director of The X-men animated series) even commented on it saying "That is fantastic!!". When I saw that comment the 90's kid in me just excitedly screamed "Whoaa, So Cool!!" Social/Sharing |

This one is truly epic and easily climbs up to my top 5 favorite Grummett commissions ! I love the character lineup you'd picked and each and every one of them is rendered perfectly ! Grummett outdid himself on this piece !

What an insane commission! So much detail throughout the entire piece, time to retire from collecting because this won't be beat haha.

Wait, did Tom only get it to you recently, or did you receive it back in 2021? Regardless, a spectacular rendition of one of the most famous scenes in Superman history and you're posting it at the perfect time!

Hi Ruben, I received it about a year ago but it took about a year to get the piece completed. I decided to save the post for the anniversary date. Thanks for the comment!

Wow! It's how Grummett makes the physical exhaustion and strain look in his figures that sells the drama of the piece! This looks as good as any commercial / published artwork used for the anniversary.

Incredible piece. Great battle scene! Love the inclusion of Luthor and the Daily Planet.
