DescriptionAcrylic/Oil painting by Ariel Olivetti of my favorite villian.I asked Ariel to depict the trials of a young Magneto during WW2 that would go on to shape his determination to protect mutants from suffering a similar fate at the hands of a world that fears and persecutes mutants. Love Ariel’s painting style and attention to detail. Social/Sharing |

Thanks D, agree. The lighting did a great job of highlighting a cachetic young Erik and adds to the menacing grimace of Magneto. Hurt the m to f ratio though

This is a powerful piece. As someone who grew up hearing these concentration camp stories from family members, this is an especially compelling and meaningful piece. That feeling of abandonment and powerlessness we see on that child's face is everyting you need to know about who he became.

Thanks for the comment Charles. Magneto has always been an interesting character to me given his backstory. I think Ariel did a great job capturing the emotions on this piece.

Well commissioned!
Thanks...still amazed when I look at the pencils retrospectively and see how Ariel already laid out the shadows and light plans, and the intricate details like the inside lining of the helmet.

Thanks James. Definitely one of my favorite Ariel pieces both artistically and from the emotion it generates.

Man. Such a poweful image, in more ways than one. Emotive no doubt, and Ariel really showing out with the colors. Big congrats, man!

I just love this powerful and well done piece. I can't believe I didn't comment earlier. It is stellar in every way and dramatically portrays an evil and horrible period of history that helped shape one of the greatest most layered fictional characters of all time.
