DescriptionIt is signed by Al Capp but attributed to Frank Frazetta. In addition to the regular six dailies and one Sunday strip per week. Capp had a platoon of assistants in later years, who worked under his direct supervision. They included Andy Amato, Harvey Curtis, Walter Johnson and, notably, a young Frank Frazetta, who penciled the Sunday continuity from studio roughs from 1954 to the end of 1961. Frazetta was in his third year as Al Capp's most technically accomplished ghost/assistant -- specializing in the principal figure work on the Sunday-funnies episodes of Li'l Abner -- when a side-order assignment came along to deliver this made-to-order piece for the Journal's Sunday magazine, The Rhode Islander. The composition and radial figure placements suggest that Frazetta penciled the piece. Some of the inking (as in the more delicate facial lines) indicates the Frazetta touch, as well, especially in the caricatured features of Capp himself (far right). Social/Sharing |

A lovely piece with Li'l Abner dressed up for the occassion! The linework gives this more sophistication than any other humor strip of their day.

I have a feeling Frazetta penciled and inked this whole piece, you can see his touch all over the art. It's a cute piece of art.
