DescriptionBefore Joe Madureira got his big break on Uncanny X-men … he got a try out of sorts on a couple issues of Excalibur… this one on particular featured an X-men crossover. So being the x-fan that I am, I was super happy to be able to add this page, featuring some great shots of Nightcrawler and Kitty and the whole X-men team in the shadows, to my collection. It is kind of amazing that Joe Mad was penciling comics for marvel at 16 years old and at the ripe old age of maybe 18 was pushing out quality like this . It is particularly cool to see how is art was evolving in this time, as this page shows his early Art Adams influence before he go to his more stylistic animation look when he was on Uncanny. Personally I love it all!Social/Sharing |

You can see a young artist at work doing everything to excess and filling every panel with detail as if it's the last page they would ever create. Two silhouette panels in a row would make Eranga jealous!

Cool seeing early Joe, knowing how his art has changed since then! Love that 2nd Kurt panel! Congrats!

You could see the guy had huge talent right from the start! Rubinstein's inks work really well here
