DescriptionI insist upon keeping this one flat on the table when I look at it; I’m just so worried that all the ink will run off if I tilt it upwards…! I mean, LOOK at the storm going on here!Adding to the “usual” atmospheric pyrotechnics Mike imbues his pieces with, this is one instance where the texture of the piece - that of the physical object itself - matches the intensity of the visual texture on it. I don’t usually like to touch the art directly, but this one demands it: razor cuts streak and swoop from top to bottom, leaving behind cracks and crevices that burn through the ink-black night like tracer bullets. This piece feels like it is not so much drawn upon the page as sculpted into it. Definitely a piece of art that makes you pull your coat or sweatshirt a little tighter around you as you look at it. Complete with a reversed-out Bond girl! Thank you (always!) to Rubén (and find more of Mike’s artwork) at comicbookartgallery.com ! Social/Sharing |

First of all, a beautiful cover. Secondly, your description perfectly depicts what it's like to experience a Mike Perkins cover first hand. "Razor cuts streak and swoop from top to bottom, leaving behind cracks and crevices that burn through the ink black night like tracer bullets. This piece feels like it is not so much drawn upon the page as sculpted into it." Wow, you are a poet! And also exactly correct. I myself own several Perkins pieces that have these textural effects that make you want to run your fingers over it. Thanks for sharing!!

Meeting you with a view of Mike’s skill
Razor bladed in all the places, feel the thrill
Rainfall covers me
Art you know DaRuben’s dealing
Mike’s overseas
Could it be the textures all black and white
The wash for spies
A mystery Leiter implies
A gap of thigh, until she
Dance into the fire
That Perkins glitz is all we need
Dance into the fire
The bullet rounds that Perkins dreams
Dance into the fire
That razor kiss is all we need
Dance into the fire
The choice for you is to view on a tilt
Between the shades wash application for the fills
Earth's crystal tears
The Bond with Felix at the ready
Burst atmosphere
To drench you skin in cover’s rainy stain
A chance to find the comics for the frame
A chance to buy, but can she
Dance into the fire
The Perkins inks are very sweet
Dance into the fire
Two fatal shots in Jason's dreams
Dance into the fire
That Perkins risk is there indeed
Dance into the fire
When all we see is the view to his skill

First of all, you're (always!) welcome. Secondly, what can I say? Between your always poetic verbiage and Marcus' fantastic Weird Al-ized version of the Duran Duran classic, you've both said it all! Fun anecdote: Yesterday on Facebook, Mike posted a message saying that he knew what character he'll be working on next, but wanted to know what everyone else wished. Most people gave a wide variety of answers, though Butch Guice suggested Tomb of Dracula with everything else a distant second. As some know, Mike has wanted to do ToD for a long time and even pitched it to Marvel back in 2015. Although they declined, that was how he ended up on Carnage, as that series' premise was similar to ToD in that it was a group of people hunting the title's main character.
Myself, I suggested his own imprint doing illustrated versions of my favourite Hollywood Noir films, complete with actor likenesses, starting with Double Indemnity and The Postman Always Rings Twice, then continuing with any other of my choices after he completes those first two. He actually said he was up for that. Won't happen, but I can dream!

The raging elements are indeed impressive but that negative white figure is a bold move. Fun cover.

Love rain scenes. I would imagine that they're pretty tricky to do, and even trickier to do well. Love the lighting on the figures as well. The female silhouette is perfect and automatically made me think of those ghostly, transparent, images of bouncing babes in all the classic Bond title sequences. Great cover Jason. And one that makes me think that, as a huge Bond fan, I really should make more of an effort to find some Bond themed pieces for my collection (aside from the one "unofficial" Bond cover I have by Gulacy).

Another Perkins winner! Dripping from atmosphere, and the composition mixed with the different techniques provides a CRAZY contrast! The shaded figures vs the white silhouetted figure, then the rain effect, THEN that smoky background...all blends for a super effective image. Perkins just with winner after winner these days. Whew. Congrats!

Absolutely stunning cover. Perkins should be doing movie posters.

Great cover!
Mike's heavy use of blacks highlighted by the silhouette makes this a stand out image! Congrats!
