This pencil version was a preliminary study for the painting of the same name "Bifid Chiaroscuro", both the finished painting and this pencil drawing / sketch were published in 1994 in Royo’s book “Malefic”. The detail, as with all of Royo's work, is astounding and showing some of the amazing precision and light and shadow effects for which he is so famous. This particular piece shows an incredible build up from rough lines to extremely detailed and shaded finishes.
