Page 6 from �Introducing Lovely Louie� (April 10, 1949). Serious comic art collectors regard the late 1940s as the peak of the dozen years The Spirit was an innovative weekly comic section inserted into subscribing newspapers. During this period Will Eisner himself was doing most of the writing, penciling, and inking before demands on his time forced more assistants to become involved in its creation. �Lovely Louie,� created during that peak period, reflects Eisner's amazing craftsmanship. Each of the nine panels is action-packed. The story was inspired by Gorgeous George, a wresting star in the late �40s/early 50s. Eisner�s trademark brush technique is showcased, with bold, confident character delineations, delicate shading, and balance of black and white. Commissioner Dolan finds himself in the ring and the winner with the pro wrestler! The page displays a range of action, personality and emotions. Plus a villain with an eyepatch and French accent as a bonus! A wonderful addition to any serious comic art collection. You can also see the Spirit in the seventh panel having been chloroformed along with Lovely Louie.

This measures 16 x 23 inches (40.6 x 58.4 cm) on Bristol board.
