DescriptionThunderbolts 126 page 7Art by Roberto De La Torre Marvel Comics - November 2008 This is a great moment in a sequence of pages where Norman Osborn disbands the Thunderbolts in Washington D.C. in front of the Senate Oversight Committee on Superhuman Activities (C.S.A.) and the world press. At this time Marvel was coming out of Secret Invasion, which was a major crossover event where, spoiler alert, Osborn took the final shot that ended the Skrull's invasion. At the time he was seen as the hero the world needed and Norman decided to take full advantage of his new found position to create his new team of anti-heroes and baddies against the judgement of the C.S.A. but with the blessing of the president. We find out later in the arc that the Thunderbolts are disbanded and the new team (H.A.M.M.E.R.) is born. The middle panel with Osborn was also used for the recap/indicia page in TB #128! I'm thrilled to add some pages from this arc to my collection and loved Rob's art style in these early books. Social/Sharing |

Del La Torre is as hard hitting in this storyline as Hitch was in Ultimates to blend real life situations in the superhero genre. This had a big impact at the time and one can see this happening in real life with how the current political discourse is going.

The buildup to Dark Reign was masterfully handled, and De La Torre did a wonderful job here conveying drama without any of the usual costumes and superpowers that are typically expected in a Marvel comic book.

In my opinion, the b/w ink is far more superior, but... that's like in the era of colorized grapohic novels ;-) I miss the Golden Age of Inking, so to speak!
