Description
Wallace Wood: Odkin, Son of Odkin (The Wizard King Trilogy: Book Two) Story Page 2 Original Art (Wallace Wood, 1981). "The Immis are a small people, compared to most, barely waist high on someone like us. Their men have the look of permanent boyhood; their women are curvy and compliant. The Immis' gentle hedonism gives them poor preparation for the acts of bravery. When a dark shadow falls across their land, the Immis draft Odkin into heroism and then exile him for the trouble that follows in his heroic wake." This sexy story page showcases Wood's love of both the fantasy and "good girl" genres, but it also shows how far he had fallen in his craft towards the end of his life. Compared to The Wizard King the decline in quality is incredible. Sloppy lettering correction, shaky inking & use of zipatone and a newfound love of pornography. Sad indeed. The book was selfpublished by Wallace Wood and copyrighted in 1981. The third and final volume of The Wizard King was going to be called "Godkin to Godking". Shortly before his death Wallace Wood wrote that he was at work on it, but it has yet to materialize. In that book Odkin would slay Anark and IAM would become all powerful.
This piece of late Woodwork (with help from various assistents, mainly Peter Hsu) has an image area of 12" x 16", done in ink and Zipatone (discolored) on lightly toned Bristol board.

Babes, weird creatures, action (of various kinds): this page has it all. Just fantastic!

Wood relied more on storytelling and his instincts in these later works.  Still, it helps paint a picture of the full career of Wood as this was released in the last year of his life.

I think this twilight-of-his-career page is actually pretty good, Lars. The craft was still there, even if the execution was inconsistent and applied with seemingly less care. Wood always managed to get a nude girl in there somewhere (*smile*). And I always dug the way he drew lizard-men.
