Man, I think just about everyone reading comics in the 80s was blown away at least a little bit by Wagner's Grendel. Hunter Rose and Christine Spar were my favorites. The iconography alone meant that I'd have their images seared in my head for life.

Wagner has done a lot of great sketches and commissions of both. I've been looking for the right one. Many thanks to Cary for parting with this beauty. Love pretty much everything about it. The spiderweb motif in the background, the bloody fork, the classic Wagner tuxedo (with the shirt flaps), and of course that mask.

This is a smaller piece that must have been done for a Heroes Initiative fundraiser at one point.
