Granulated goodness!
Gritty Greatness.
Really fun texture that Smith puts over the entire figure that goes outside of the fine ink lines that he's known for. Somehow it still looks like a Smith piece by the outlines of this throwback Sandman design.
As a small kid, I was totally terrified by The Sandman. He looked cruel and sadistic. I remember vivid nightmares of being trapped in a cellar with Sandman and The Hulk alternately stalking me. Paul has recalled this creepy childhood vibe to me perfectly here. Delicious!
A sandy spectacular. He never fails to find the perfect pose, and going back to the original Ditko is always a winner. I have to get one of these, he just kills them all. Congrats!
His love for the Ditko era Spidey characters totally shines through on this piece. All the recent sinister 6 ones are great, but he outdid himself with all the sand details
I mean, takes me right back to Sandman's first apperance in ASM #4! Awesome rendition by Paul. Congrats!
Twice-up scale in ink over graphite on illustration board with an image area of 12" x 18". Slight toning, text paste-ups, abrasions on the right side edge, marginal notes,

I'm thankful for CAF for letting me know that collectors are talking about this. After the fact.
Both fun AND brilliant. A great take on this classic Spidey villain. Drawn just as the name implies. Most artists don't even get that.
