Description

James Montgomery Flagg (1877-1960) is best known for his iconic WWI-era poster of Uncle Sam pointing vigorously at the viewer as a potential recruit for the U.S. Army. Even before that, he was in great demand as an artist for high-profile magazines such as Collier's and the Saturday Evening Post.

This gentler image for a the cover of women's magazine, rendered in watercolor and pencil, finds a high society lady enjoying tea. It's a decent size, 21-1/2 x 12 inches. The published magazine was oversized as well, by modern standards.

Great piece from a time when newspapers and magazines were what shaped the culture of the times.  This is a cover that represented the ideal of high society ladies should strive for back then.
