DescriptionI love this painting of Conan in armor with the mystical fog swirling around him with the demon forming from it behind him while the soon to killed by Conan warriors approach from the front. Another great image and cover of Conan by the wildly underappreciated artist, Charles Keegan.From Mr. Keegan: "Mists of Doom (oil on academy board, 20" x 30") was produced as cover art for the Tor book Conan and the Mists of Doom by Roland Green (1996). It was my first published work. The predominate thought as I developed the painting was to put Conan in armor rather than in bathing trunks with a pretty belt. As the book placed the Cimmerian in Turan, I used Middle Eastern/Persian armour as my reference. When I received the commission, I went to my folks' house and found my old Conan books by Howard and reread them. Having not seen them since high school, I thought they may not be as good as I remembered. As I was reading, I realized Howard's work was better than I remembered. The stories stood up after all those years. Howard needs no apologies. His work has grounding in history, the great myths, and literature, which he then wove into a believable world with gutsy characters. There are no "reluctant heroes" in Howard's worlds. It was the rereading of Howard's Conan that got me fired up for this painting. And although it was my first work in the field, it is still one of my favorites." Social/Sharing |

This is so good......used as a cover, this piece would sell magazines today !!
Note how this level of painting skill is completely removed from recognition by fans due to the near total use of digital painting.

A stunning piece! You know what I like best about it? It's that Conan, to me at least, appears to be dressed in an outfit inspired by Indian culture. It's almost as if this is the cover to "What If Conan Roamed India?". Luv it!

OMG! What a gorgeous painting of Conan by Charles Keegan. I'm not that familiar with Keegan's work, but this is certainly an incredibly beautiful piece of art. I love the incredibly detailed armor Keegan put on Conan here, glowing brightly as if a sunbeam pierced the fog of war surrounding Conan. Love the approaching soldiers coming out of the mist below Conan and the demonic female coming out of the gloom behind him. It's a jaw-droppingly awesome painting!
