Description

Carmen Cerra is a Midwest-based illustrator who has worked in a variety of genres. This cartoon started appearing on a number of different social media platforms after one of the school shootings earlier this year, but the artist was unidentified. After some sleuthing (by me and others), I discovered this to be one of Carmen's drawings. I contacted him and he explained that this was a sketch he did. It wasn't done for publication, but appeared to take on a life of it's own. It's a beautifully executed drawing, with a lot of life and volume in the line work. But it is also sadly a by-product of the times we live in.

They can run this every week along with the "Thoughts and prayers" quotes. Political cartoons in the midwest don't fly over well if it's doesn't align with people's thoughts and prayers. So not getting credit early on might not have been a bad thing.
