Description

In this solo series from the "Dawn of DC" era, Cyborg speaks at his father's funeral, with the other Titans sitting in the front row. It may seem odd for the heroes to wear their costumes to church, but how else can they pay their respects without revealing their secret identities? I like Donna Troy's sparkly star-dress, a reference to her black bodysyuit. And look how much taller Starfire is than Robin! George Perez was famous for group shots like this, and Raney does him credit, giving each character a slightly different pose.

Panels 2-6 review Doctor Stone's career in clockwise order, including the pivotal moments when he turned his wounded son into a machine man. Raney printed his digital rough layout and inked it traditionally. Three football players in the middle of panel 2 appear only in ink, so they must have been late additions to fill out the scrimmage.

The last panel is a great group shot of the Bronze Age team at the unveiling of Titans Tower, with Doctor Stone cutting the ribbon in the background. The ropey panel borders represent wiring; Marco Rudy used a similar technique on a 2014 X-Men issue, in a style going back through J.H. Williams to Neal Adams' work on X-Men.

A DPS montage of some of Cyborg's memories of his father.  He resented his dad for a very long time, so this is symbolically closing the loop with him making peace with his father and with himself.  Great to see Raney pencils on the closeups under his own inks.
