RAINBOW BATMAN

A gift for my partner a few Christmas’s ago to go with the RAINBOW DC collectibles figure set. So much color and lots to love from Fred Hembeck’s art. I rarely see repeats of such unique versions of characters but recently on EBay another one was sold so I thought it was finally time to post mine.

Throughout the years we have seen multi-colored Batman in the comics, starting around March of 1957, Detective Comics #241, the cover displayed a color variation on Batman’s suit for almost every main color of the rainbow. Previously to that, in June of 1952 Detective Comics #184, Batman faced the man of 1000 lights, the Human Firefly (aka FIREFLY). Then in September 1960, Batman #134, Batman fights a rainbow striped creature, properly named “The Rainbow Creature”. A few years later he is then dawning a new rainbow striped colored suit, August of 1966, Batman #182 calling himself the “RAINBOW BATMAN” as seen in Fred’s sketch art.

In the 2000’s we started to see these now in the toys with a rainbow colored Batman Lego, Funko PoP! figures and even the full set of 6 DC collectible figures each wearing a different color of the rainbow suit.

Yup - I'll never tire of seeing more Fred Hembeck work! Never mind pen and ink - fun and comics history are his chosen medium. A great Hembeck take here (and thank you for the history lesson, as I didn't know much about this costume of Batman's)! Great piece - congrats on the Bats, James!
