Devastatingly, shockingly and suddenly, Less than 2 weeks after this photo, Allen Spiegel has passed away. I can't think of anyone else in the comics world who wasn't a writer or artist etc, but was so loved by all many of us, in his extended ASFA family - as well as his actual blood relatives. LL & RIP

This one hits hard. Unlike the recent passings of Perez, Adams, Pearson, and Romita, Allen was someone I actually knew. Someone who was there from the very beginning of my collecting journey, and one of the very few people in my 40-year club. Our dealings started through mail order. But after meeting him for the first time at San Diego in the mid 80's, there has hardly been a year when I didn't come home with something from his table. I still have an old beat up copy of The Studio book that I got from Allen during a visit to his home, which seems like a million years ago. I so deeply regret not being able to see him one last time. I'm sure this photo means so much more to you now. Thank you for everything Allen. We'll meet again.
