DescriptionAs I have mentioned before, if you have not read Cursed Pirate Girl by Jeremy Bastian, you are making a terrible mistake. The story is fun and the art is amazing. I'd heard of the book, but never seen it until Heroes Con 2013 when I went to visit with David Petersen of Mouse Guard fame. Jeremy's table was adjacent. While Kathy, my wife, was talking to David, I spent a little time looking at Jeremy's book - the hardcover collection of Cursed Pirate Girl. I was amazed. One word of warning, the book is only one-half the story plus the 2015 update are only 2/3rds of the story. He's progressing on the new segment, but it's not fast. Jeremy was to be at HeroesCon 2023, but on Friday he was MIA. I kept checking because I really wanted to commission a drawing from him. On Saturday, he appeared. It turns out he was ill Friday, but pretty much recovered on Saturday. Because he'd lost so much time, he decided to take a list which he hoped to complete within a week or two. I laughed and suggested December might be more likely. Why This Subject I have CPG and a Pirate Ship from him along with the first CPG commission that he ever did, but I really felt that I needed to see Jeremy's idea of a safe harbor. So, that's the subject of this piece. I'm really happy with it and if you meet Jeremy, you should commission him. He's very creative! Social/Sharing |

Thanks for the extra-large scan, Alex. That is a stellar example of Jeremy's work.

There's a port that he illustrates
And deserves a hundred quips of praise
Lone collectors pass the time away
And talk about art to own
And there's a girl in this harbor town
And she's cursed there at Heroes Con
They say, Jeremy, put my money down
He serves them the seas in lines
Collectors say, "Jeremy, draws a fine girl" (Pirate fine girl)
"What a good life you would lead" (such a line world)
"Yeah, your lines could steal a sailor from the sea"

Jeremy is one of my favorite artists ever, and certainly a favorite among those working today. Congratulations on another fine piece from him. I often think of McCay when I see his work, but this one reminds me more of Paolo Serpieri.

Another lovely addition to an excellent collection. Hard to go wrong with Jeremy.
