Description

I was introduced to Darwyn Cooke�s work by my best friend, who happened to have a few friends in common with Darwyn and had met him a few times in social settings. He was an inspirational Artist to both of us and I had hopes to one day meet him myself. It�s tragic that both men have since passed away, and from very similar illnesses.

My best friend also schooled me on why Superman isn�t a boring two-dimensional character who�s too strong to ever be engaging as a protagonist. :) The guy really knew his comics, loved Superman, and often gave me fresh perspectives on characters or Artists that I�d possibly too rapidly dismissed or overlooked.

Picking up this Superman sketch seemed like a nice way to have both men front of mind while browsing through my collection.

Has a great power to the smile, the shading, and the dry brush curve of the cheek. Cooke went to the animation roots of Superman with the Fleischer Studios look.
