Description

This sci-fi series is all about Dave Law's psychedelic art. In the high concept story by Chris Calza, a teen girl named Major Trauma is one of the last survivors of Earth after an alien invasion in 1994. She's been raised exclusively on a video diet of Full House episodes, or an alien approximation thereof, and images of the Olsen twins constantly interrupt her thoughts. She's a game show celebrity in a manic Mojoworld-like scenario but has been testing the limits of her confinement.

In this scene, Major Trauma has spent the last three issues captive and hallucinating after being zapped by a diminutive guard named Agent 19. She is rescued by the dullard sumo wrestler Roast Beef and by the televised avatar of gonzo author William S. Burroughs, whose feverish writings strongly inform the aesthetic of this series. The squished Agent 19 can be seen in the bottom right corner of the page.

Law went all-out with imaginative sound effects. To produce the page, he worked back and forth between pencil, ink, and colored markers, then digitally colored the backgrounds for good measure. Major Trauma's over-the-top lolling tongue makes the perfect punctuation mark for this scene.
