I don't think he gave away anything by the time 2013 came around unless it was a gift with purchase. But if you got it for free, it's a pretty great souvenir art piece reminding us of his iconic Batman stories.
I think you're right. Wasn't "free" per se but I think I picked it up from his table after some paid signings and a remarque done on a comic.
