DescriptionI'll count this one as a dumb luck win. I bid on this page at auction, not recognizing the title with which it was listed -- "Tangled Web: The Thousand." Turns out "The Thousand" is the name of this Garth Ennis Spider-Man story. For the first four issues, the book was simply called "Tangled Web." After that, Spider-Man's name was explicitly added to the title as "Spider-Man's Tangled Web." Peter Milligan took over as writer at that point. The story opens with Peter attending a party with a bunch of models and feeling totally out of place. Sure enough, he's here in the bottom right of the splash page, coming through the door, and he even has his "half Spider-Man mask" to show that his Spidey Sense is tingling! Never did I expect to own a page with that. Granted, it may set a record for tiniest Spidey Sense, but it's there! I wouldn't have associated an Ennis story with such a highly cartoony art style (very different from the Glenn Fabry cover, too), and I guess nobody else in the auction did either, since I got it for fifty bucks, which may be a record low for a Spider-Man splash page. McCrea's style suits the characters here since models are supposed to be impossible tall and gangly anyway. Social/Sharing |

Much like how fashion houses would draw designs in cartoon shapes and forms of models wearing the latest haute couture. Of course our attention is focused on the always fashionable Spidey half mask.
