Description

"War Story" by Robert Kanigher.

Hank, an Easy Company replacement, wants to take point to check out a footbridge. Sgt. Rock orders him to stay put and takes point. Rock is hit by enemy gunfire and Hank rushes forward to rescue him. Just as Hank lays Rock down saying that now Rock will let him take point, an enemy bullet kills Hank.

Thank you to Jay Austin for letting me buy the page. This Kanigher and Heath story made an impression on me when I was growing up.
