Even with so many threads of linework, you don't feel the subject is weighed down at all with the spirits behind her. Beautiful illustration that you just don't see in modern works.

Another winner Ben. Great example of why Coll is considered at or near the top of the heap in pen and ink illustration of this period

Your Joseph Clement Coll collection is to die for, and this is an exquisite work.... unlabored, yet endlessly expressive and elegant in execution. Would that Coll had lived to old age, what further wonders awaited?
