DescriptionThis preliminary sketch embodies the fantasy environment of the Hildebrandts epic world of Atlantis.In this sketch Kaleha stumbles upon the vicious and Evil Lord Verlak! Surrounded by lava and the boiling depths of the deep underground caverns. It is the initial design for Verlak from the 1982 Atlantis Calendar. It is on vellum. It is 27.5 inches by 21 inches. Great imaginative work! A classic trope, but executed in the manner and to the heights only the Hildebrandts could reach! Very powerful to have the wings fully wide to frame both sides showing how impossible it is for escape..
